Summary
Videotape testimony of Felice S., who was born in Walldürn, Germany in 1939. She recounts her family's deportation to Gurs in October 1940; placement, with her sister, in an OSE home in Limoges; living with the Patoux family in La Caillaudière; not knowing she was Jewish; her sister briefly joining her; the end of the war; placement in an orphanage in Draveil, which she does not remember, then in an OSE orphanage in Taverny; a close relationship with a counselor; Jewish education; emigration to the United States in 1951; placement in several homes and a JCAA home; separation from her sister; and living with foster parents. Mrs. S. reads from her parents' and uncle's letters to her uncle in the United States and notes his failure to rescue her family. She discusses her warm and continuing relationship with the Patoux family and her American foster parents; wonderful memories of Taverny; securing official recognition of Madame Patoux by Yad Vashem; emotional problems resulting from not knowing her parents and repeated, unexplained separations from nurturers; feeling her suffering was unacknowledged because she was not a camp survivor; a conference of OSE children; her close relationship with her sister; and documenting her family's deportations in Serge Klarsfeld's book.
