He served as a music critic for the New York World (1921-1925) and the New York American (1931-1932), and appeared frequently on the radio, most notably as intermission commentator for the broadcasts of the New York Philharmonic (1936-1943 and 1948-1949). He hosted the animated film Fantasia (1940), and served as president of ASCAP (1942-1948). Taylor married three times; the papers of his second wife, the writer and actress Mary Kennedy, are held at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.
