Part I of the Fable, from the 6th edition, 1732, consists of the original poem, the "Grumbling hive: or, Knaves, turn'd honest," first published in 1705, with prose commentary: An enquiry into the origin of moral virtue; Remarks; An essay on charity-schools; a Search into the nature of society; a Vindication of the book. Part II, from the first edition, 1729, consists of preface and six prose dialogues, amplifying and defending his doctrines.
