Summary
The papers contain correspondence, diaries, orderly books, and other papers primarily documenting Sargent's career as agent for the Ohio Company; secretary of the Northwest Territory, 1787-1798; and governor of Mississippi Territory, 1798-1801. Also included is a copy of Benjamin Harrison Pershing's 1927 Ph.D. dissertation, "Winthrop Sargent: A Builder in the Old Northwest," correspondence and other papers documenting the last years of Winthrop's life, and a small quantity of papers of other members of the Sargent family.
