Having assimilated in Germany, they found themselves living exclusively among Jews for the first time, and were called "more German than Jewish". Through interviews they discuss the trauma of leaving Germany, their difficulties of adapting to life in the U.S., the relief and remorse of being saved, and the moral and emotional implications of their survival.
