Biographical / Historical Note
George Stephenson (b. 1758 or 9), a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, was rector of Kelloe and curate of Bishopwearmouth, both in Durham. He published several sermons and controversial works, including The Romish Church...in a Series of Discourses (1806, 1807) and The Churchman (1817).
Summary
Holograph fair copy of a lengthy commentary on the Thirty-Nine Articles. While this text draws upon the printed commentary by Edward Welchman, it includes much original textual criticism and formal logical proofs of the articles, as well as many refutations of Roman Catholic theological positions.
