Summary
Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of 21 sermons on various topics, including "Christian liberty," "growth in grace," and the punishment and death of God's enemies. Several sermons express anti-Catholic sentiments; for example, a sermon on adoption declares that "one grand error of popery...is that no man may have any assurance of his adoption in this life, other than conjecturall, unles it be made knowne unto him by speciall revelacion," and in a sermon on "the true religion," the author writes, "There are some that dreame that the Me. will not yet come, god will not call them yet, sickness hath not yet shaken them by the hand. They shall have time enough to repent in; they crave but one howre upon their death-bedds to make themselves ready for heaven, for wch worke of attaining happynes, the saints of god have confessed all the dayes of their lives to be too short." The collection also contains a funeral sermon in which the author says, "It wilbe expected that I should say something of the party deceased, but truely (for mine own particulars) I had but small knowledge of her."
