Summary
Manuscript, in a single hand, with numerous corrections, of notes used in the preparation of Burney's "History of Music." In addition to discussions on musical terms, forms, and composers, he includes a note on the whole-tone scale of "Chinese music" and remarks that "the...tempered scale is an inevitable evil in wind & keyed instruments & is tolerated more than admired by persons of discriminating & cultivated ears."
