Autograph manuscript collection of prose extracts, letters, and poems, including: correspondence from Ripley's cousin Mary Louisa (Plumptre) Smyth, a missionary in British Guiana, concerning her ongoing health concerns, missionary work, and other family matters, along with some poems and hymns said to be her favorites, and notes concerning her death in 1833; a "Memorandum of the excursion to the Mayaroni and Essequibo Rivers" based on Mary's letters; "An account of a visit to the lakes of Cumberland and Westmoreland in 1806" based on a letter from Peter Rashleigh, an old schoolmate of Ripley; a poem, dedicated to Mary's father John Plumptre, titled "Reculver: a legend of the sisters"; "Memorandum of a visit to Monmouthshire and Herefordshire 18th and 14th August, 1833"; "Miscellaneous poetry by Jeremy Pemberton," Ripley's uncle; "Journal of a tour in Warwickshire, 1840"; other excerpts of elegaic and occasional verse, and anecdotes on travel and description in Warwickshire, Lancaster, and other places; Ripley's maternal family tree from his mother Sophia (Pemberton) Ripley.
