Summary
Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of 66 verses by various acquaintances of the compiler, many annotated with the circumstances of their composition. The volume includes several poems by "William Kendall of Exeter," including a poem titled To Jane Seymer annotated thus: "On a present of a gold necklace sent us by J. S. Mr. Kendall being at our house at the time wrote the following lines for us to send her as thanks." The collection also contains numerous poems by children, including those of "Miss Cresswell, 9 yrs old;" A Complaint by "Judge Nares' Son," 10 years old; and Lines by Master Buller at 13 on the Death of his Brother. Other poems include A Receipt to make a Novel, or Romance; The half peel'd Turnip, a Sentimental Tale by "Mr. Drew"; and several by Mary Hunt (1764-1834), including Hope and On Visiting the ruins of Dunkswell Abbey.
