Summary
Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of several hundred sixteenth-century sonnets, copied from early printed editions, including their title pages. The volume contains Cynthia, with certain sonnets, by Richard Barnfield; Fidessa, more chaste than kinde, by Bartholomew Griffin, including a copy of Griffin's dedicatory letter to M. William Essex of Lamebourne; Diella, certaine sonnets, adioyned to the amorous poeme of Dom Diego and Gineura, by Richard Lynche, including a copy of the dedicatory letter to Lady Anne Glemnham from the publisher, Henry Olney; and Diana, or the excellent conceitful sonnets of H. C. augmented with diverse quatorzains of honorable and learned personages, by Henry Constable. This last entry is followed by a note, tipped in, with a brief biography of Constable, and four sonnets by Constable to Sir Phillip Sidney's soul, prefaced to the first edition of Sidney's Apologie for poetrie. The volume also contains numerous emendations in pencil.
