Summary
Holograph diaryof a two-day journey from Uley through Scotland and England, and then back to Uley. The author focuses primarily on recording the names of the towns he visits, along with the weather, the names of places where he dines and sleeps, and brief descriptions of the landscape. The narrative is followed by an account of a journey from London to the West Country and back, dated 1824. He sets out from No. 38 Devonshire St., remarking on the landscape, architecture, and weather in the towns he passes. He stops at a sheep farm and comments on wool and lambing; finds fish plentiful at Dartmouth; and visits friends at Plymouth. Elsewhere, he describes a meeting with Robert Owen and the arrival in Edinburgh of King George IV. The diary concludes with his return to London.
At the end of the volume, in the same hand, are several cookery and medicinal recipes.
