Summary
Manuscript album, illustrated, in three volumes, of a "book of days" arranged according to the Anglican liturgical calendar. Each day is represented by an illustration and a poem on facing pages.
The illustrations include printed and original materials with a variety of subjects and sources, such as printed portraits of saints; engravings and etchings of Bible scenes; hand-colored illustrations of family life, prayer, and children; watercolors and other pictures of flowers and landscapes; and a variety of color prints on magazine and card stock.
The poems are almost all explicitly religious or inspirational, and include Anglican hymns such as "Lead, Kindly Light;" Longfellow's "The Two Angels;" Marvell's "See How the Orient Dew;" Kingsley's "Magdalen at St. Michael's Gate;" and other poems by Kingsley, Felicia Hemans, Lydia Huntley Sigourney, Hartley Coleridge, Leticia Elizabeth Landon, and unidentified authors.
