Summary
A 14-year-old friendless schoolgirl, Mouchette lives with her alcoholic bootlegger father and bedridden dying mother. One day she witnesses a fight between Arsène and Mathieu. When she tries to console Arsène, he misinterprets her actions and rapes her. Her mother's death and other tragedies increase her isolation and she kills herself.
