Summary
Data represents part of a longitudinal study of the nature of retirement and of the transition to a retirement lifestyle. Data on the retirees or their surviving spouses include: level of educational attainment, present health condition, current employment status, work history, industry and occupational classification, wages, retirement plans, attitudes toward retirement, pension benefits, insurance coverage, contacts with relatives, living expenses, assets, debts, income, and basic demographic information. Study investigates changes in the economic and social characteristics of men and unmarried women, 58-63 years old, as they approached and entered the retirement phase of their lives.
