Summary
After 7 years Hester Prynne's missing husband finds her forced to wear the letter 'A' branding her as an adultress. He becomes obsessed with proving the true identity of the father of the illegitimate Pearl while the Rev. Dimmesdale, the father, is slowly consumed by his guilt. Both men die, Hester and Pearl gain in strength.
