Biographical / Historical Note
Frank Alfred Golder (1877-1929) was a professor of Russian history at Washington State College and Stanford University, as well as a member of the American Relief Administration, a relief mission under the direction of Herbert Hoover and based in the United States and delivered to Europe and later Soviet Russia after World War I.
Summary
Photograph albums attributed to Frank Alfred Golder that document the efforts of the American Relief Administration in the vicinity of Samara, Russia, during the Volga Famine, and throughout Poland and Hungary, 1921-1922. Photographic prints show famine victims, including adults and children, and members of the American Relief Administration, as well as soup kitchens, sanitariums, local architecture, agricultural landscape, mountain ranges, and railroads.
