Manuscript, in Walpole's hand, of a draft, with numerous corrections, of a description and commentary of political events, primarily concerning Parliamentary activities, between 1769 and 1771 and then 1783-1791. Arranged by date, the drafts include descriptions of the reactions to the publication of the Junius letters; Parliamentary discussions concerning the repeal of taxes in America; the activities of John Wilkes, with criticism of his paper, the North Briton; Parliamentary speeches along with descriptions of their effects on their listeners; and summaries of various alliances, maneuvers, and administrative changes within Parliament. Throughout, Walpole includes his own opinions upon the persons and events he describes.

The draft of the first volume is followed by a piece, also in Walpole's hand, titled Journal from the conclusion of the session of Parliament in May 1771, which contains information on the activities of John Wilkes; the deaths and promotions of prominent political figures; and the publication of Smollett's "servile book called Humphrey Clinker."
