Santa Claus in Baghdad is a story about giving set in modern-day Iraq. It is a story of sacrifices, the social order of society, and the power of a simple gift. "After the first Gulf War and for ten years, the United Nations had imposed an embargo on the country if Iraq. No imports or exports were allowed in the country. The Iraqi people sold anything and everything to survive. Medicine was scarce. Almost 500,000 children died from treatable illnesses such as pneumonia."
