Summary
Manuscript collection of riddles, in multiple hands, by unidentified compilers. The riddles are written within a small exercise book, "Sold by C. Penny, London". All are framed within borders of various size, shape, color (watercolor), and ornament. Some of the borders are very elaborate, and most pages combine the bordered riddles in assorted artful compositions. As some of the frames contain no riddles, it appears that the borders were drawn first. Text is written in pen and brown or black ink.
There are over 50 riddles, some of them numbered. Aside from a handful of geometrical or mathematical puzzles, the riddles are primarily verbal, employing puns, anagrams, and other word play. Answers are provided for a small portion, either immediately following the riddle or on a later page. A handful of answers are provided on a small scrap of paper loosely inserted.
