Summary
Summary: Two extreme examples, Venice and Las Vegas, will be illustrated from an unfamiliar point of view. The focus will be on the significance of their respective landscapes: as resource, as cornerstone for urban development, and as cultural memory. The decrease of significance with its devastating ecological, social, and aesthetical consequences will be exposed as well. A rethink is now a necessity, and the amelioration of individual symptoms will not be enough. Prospective strategies for urban development are calling for the return of landscape. Exhibition: Akademie der Künste, Berlin, 13 March - 30 May 2010.
