Summary
"Apparently a copy of a French caricature of English grotesques. An obese man (left) with large head and small thin legs, kneels at the feet of a tall absurdly thin woman. He extends both arms, hat in hand, smiling up at her. She (right) bends over him encouragingly, holding up a fan. Both have debased profiles and are gap-toothed, the lady's teeth project. Below the title: 'Heaven in Your Eye in every gesture Dignity & Love' [adaptation of 'Paradise Lost', viii, l. 488]."--British Museum online catalogue.
