Summary
Photographs and photographic postcards that document events during the Mexican Revolution, 1913-1915. The images chiefly depict events related to the Second Battle of Agua Prieta, November 1-2, 1915. The postcards were probably removed from an album that may have featured a woman identified as "Erma Rachel." Several informal portraits in the collection depict her alone and with Plutarco Elías Calles, a commander of the Constitutionalists (also known as Carranzistas).
Photographs of the Second Battle of Agua Prieta depict Constitutionalist soldiers in trenches and firing artillery. Related images depict Mexican civilian refugees in Douglas, Arizona. Photographs of the battle's aftermath show dead horses, a slain child soldier, and damage to buildings in Agua Prieta, including the store of Plutarco Elías Calles. Other images document United States Army troops en route through Douglas to the international border, as well as American soldiers in trenches along the border during the battle.
Photographs related to United States Army in Douglas include images of a military parade; a demonstration that included members of the 9th Cavalry Regiment; and an encampment at Camp Douglas (later known as Camp Jones).
Other photographs in the collection include views of the American customs house at Naco, Arizona, as well as Mexican troops along a wall in Naco, Sonora. Two postcards in the collection created by "Jorschke" depict troops involved in the coup d'état of President Francisco I. Madero in Mexico City in February 1913.
Portraits in the collection depict figures in the Mexican Revolution, including Calles, Venustiano Carranza, General Frederick Funston, General Benjamín G. Hill, Francisco I. Madero, Alvaro Obregón, Pascual Orozco, and Pancho Villa.
