Summary
High resolution spectra of the spontaneous and stimulated luminescence in CdSe have been investigated as functions of excitation intensity and temperature. In addition to the spontaneous emission lines, numerous laser lines and their cavity modes have been observed. Some of the laser lines appear to be correlated with spontaneous emission lines reported and interpreted by other investigators. Two of these lines have been observed to saturate and then to disappear as the excitation intensity increases. In one sample, a pronounced shift of the cavity modes to shorter wavelength has been observed as the excitation is increased. Preliminary investigations of the effects of bombardment with 1.5 MeV electrons on the luminescence have been made. These early observations indicate that irradiation with electrons shifts the laser action to shorter wavelengths. (Author).
