Summary
Raju, a guide, falls for Rosie, a dancer married to the overbearing Marco. Raju convinces Rosie to leave her husband, and he becomes her manager. After forging her signature, Raju ends up in prison. Upon his release, he decides not to return home, but to seek his fortune elsewhere. After wandering the countryside on foot, he wakes up one morning in a remote temple, wearing a saffron scarf. He is mistaken for a holy man, and begins to think that is what he really is.
