Gertrud Schlesinger von Hofmannsthal (circa 1881-1959), married Hugo von Hofmannsthal in 1901.
Richard Beer-Hofmann (1866-1945), Austrian dramatist and poet.
Summary
164 autograph letters, signed; 8 autograph letters; 103 autograph postcards, signed; 14 autograph postcards; 3 typed letters, signed; 1 typed letter; 22 telegrams; and 13 calling cards with notes, from Hugo von Hofmannsthal to Richard Beer-Hofmann, [1890]-1929 July 15 and undated. Most letters are accompanied by envelopes. Early letters are signed "Loris." Letters dated 1892 July 22, 1903 June 27, and 1905 October 20 are in verse; a letter dated 1894 September 22 contains a poem, "Als unser Hund in ComerSee ertrank"; and some verses, "del purgatorio canto ventesimo terzo," are on the verso of an envelope dated 1894 September 26. Many postcards include postscripts by Gertrud von Hofmannsthal; a card dated 1912 May 10 is signed by Rudolf Borchardt and Max Mell; and a letter from Beer-Hofmann to Hofmannsthal is on the verso of a letter dated 1914 September 11. With letters to Hofmannsthal from "Fels," 1893 July 28, Franziska Wertheimstein, 1894 April 6, and Elsa Cantacuzene, fragment, 1894 June 1; two tickets for a lecture by Hofmannsthal, "Der Dichter und seine Zeit," 1907 January; and obituaries for his mother, Anna von Hofmannsthal, 1904 March 23, and father, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, 1915 December 9.
"Ich gieng hernieder weite Bergestiegn," poem by Hofmannsthal, autograph manuscript, 1894 January 31, on the verso of a printed autograph manuscript facsimile of his Epilog (Der Rahmen fällt, es lösen sich die Gruppen...).
12 autograph letters, signed; 12 autograph postcards, signed; 1 typed letter, signed; and 3 telegrams from Gertrud von Hofmannsthal to Paula Beer-Hofmann or Richard Beer-Hofmann, 1904 May 24-1928 May 26. Most letters are accompanied by envelopes. A letter dated 1918 July 19 includes a lengthy postscript by Hugo von Hofmannsthal.
