Autograph manuscript draft of an essay on the Salic law, with additions and corrections in the hand of Madame Louise Dupin. This manuscript is one of a series of essays written by Rousseau at the request of Madame Dupin in preparation for a book which she intended to write on women's rights. The manuscripts are described in Anicet Sénéchal's "Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Secrétaire de Madame Dupin" (in Annales de la Société J.-J. Rousseau, vol. 36, 1963-1965, p. 243, item 28) to which has been added a "Note sur la dispersion des papiers Dupin" by B. Gagnebin.
