Scope and Contents
The Larry Goodell Papers, which span from 1954 to 2016, contain correspondence, writings, business records, posters, audiovisual materials, electronic media, printed material, and other papers by or related to Larry Goodell and Duende Press. The papers contain writings of Larry Goodell as well as correspondence, poetry, and other writings from many poets with whom Goodell had personal relationships or business connections through Duende Press. The records of Duende Press document business dealings between 1968 and 2008, primarily in the form of writings submitted to the press from a variety of poets. Photographs and audiovisual materials,spanning 1968 to 2013, make up the smallest portion of the collection and primarily document poetry readings and performances by Goodell and other regional poets from the Southwestern United States.

Larry Goodell
Larry Goodell, a prolific poet and publisher, was born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1935. After studying at University of Southern California and the University of New Mexico, Goodell settled in Placitas, New Mexico and started Duende Press in 1964. Duende Press published not only Goodell's poetry, but also the works of other poets such as his former teacher Robert Creeley. Goodell actively participated in the poetry and performance communities of the Southwestern United States, hosting many readings and events from the mid-1960's onward. Goodell also maintained extensive personal and business correspondences with a variety of poets, authors and artists.
Processing Information
Collections are processed to a variety of levels, depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived research value, the availability of staff, competing priorities, and whether or not further accruals are expected. The library attempts to provide a basic level of preservation and access for all collections as they are acquired, and does more extensive processing of higher priority collections as time and resources permit.
This collection received a basic level of processing, including rehousing and minimal organization.

Folder titles appearing in the contents list below are often based on those provided by the creator or previous custodian. Titles have not been verified against the contents of the folders in all cases. Otherwise, folder titles are supplied by staff during initial processing.
This finding aid may be updated periodically to account for new acquisitions to the collection and/or revisions in arrangement and description.

Opening Hours
Access Information
The Beinecke Library is open to all Yale University students and faculty, and visiting researchers whose work requires use of its special collections. You will need to bring appropriate photo ID the first time you register. Beinecke is a non-circulating, closed stack library. Paging is done by library staff during business hours. You can request collection material online at least two business days in advance of your visit, using the request links in Archives at Yale.
