Mary Loughlin Bierman papers

 Collection
Call Number: MS 1628

Scope and Contents

The Mary Loughlin Bierman Papers consist of printed material and photographs pertaining to a trip made by Mary Loughlin (later Bierman) to Germany in August-September of 1946 in her professional capacity as Requirements Specialist, Civilian Supply Function, Office of the Quartermaster General, U. S.

The purpose of the visit was to provide an exchange of technical information with the Food and Agriculture Branch of OMGUS, Office of Military Government (U. S.), which negotiated U. S. policy for the government of Occupied Germany and coordinated it with the policies of the other three occupying powers. Mary Loughlin gathered data which was pertinent to civilian supply problems in occupied territories, namely, displaced persons' requirements, German import requirements, rationing systems, caloric evaluations, price controls, distribution and stock control procedures, population statistics, fiscal budgets, and related topics. This information formed the basis for recommendations to the U. S. War Department in a report contained in this collection.

Photographs and printed material acquired at the Duppell Displaced Persons Camp in Berlin complete the collection.
