|a "Recorded at the Grande Halle de la Villette venue in Paris, Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco's 2018 Pitchfork Musical Festival performance conveys a warm mix of mellow indie rock melodies and more expansive psychedelic-tinged musical forays. The set opens with ""On The Level,"" from 2017's This Old Dog album, a song that seeps into life with woozy layers of synths cushioning DeMarco's endearingly laconic lyrical delivery. The melliferous ""No Other Heart"" features the singer attempting to woo an unattainable crush by promising, ""I'll put the sparkle right back in your eyes / What could you lose?"" Similar themes of heartbreak and finding a way to deal with lonesome feelings become a recurring motif throughout the concert, with emotional crux points including the heartrending ""Chamber Of Reflection"" and the dusky, blues-influenced ""One More Love Song"" (which also features a call for the audience to help sing the chorus because DeMarco's voice has turned husky after three weeks spent enjoying the excesses of the touring life). Amping up the intensity towards the gig's climatic final stretch, a couple of covers of Misfits tracks (""Hollywood Babylon"" and ""Hybrid Moments"") bring a raucous punk attitude to the experience, complete with DeMarco throwing off many of his clothes to finish the performance topless. **Philip Mlynar**".
