Doing together is a matter of choice and principleʺ reads the curatorial statement of the exhibition Elementar: Fazer Juntoʺ (Elementary: Doing It Together) held at MAM São Paulo. The curatorship -Valquíria Prates, Mirela Estelles and Cauê Alves- articulates more than seventy works from the collection, composed of the most varied languages and evoking ideas of cooperation and participation linked mainly to the educational work of the museum. The collective exhibition seeks to propose reflections on what is necessary to establish a relationship with the other, taking into account the barriers to be broken in order to accomplish things in communion, whether social, cultural, political or geographic, in an exercise to reflect on issues such as otherness and freedom. The works are part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo. The catalog, divided into two parts, opens with a text of Elizabeth Machado, President of the MAM, and another jointly signed by the curators Valquiria Prates, Mirela Estelles and Caue Alves. In the first part of the book, the nuclei of the show are presented, with images of representative works of each of them, accompanied by quotes from authors who help to think about the themes evoked in these segments, such as Ailton Krenak, Marilena Chauí, bell hooks, Bruno Latour, Maria Lind, Roland Barthes, Leda Maria Martins, Humberto Maturana, Luiz Antônio Simas, Jacques Rancière, Paulo Freire, among others. The second part, entitled "To read together", is composed of essays, followed by the complete list of works of the exhibition. The publication also has illustrations by the artist and designer Vânia Medeiros.
