Summary
Rogers's letter to his sister gives an account of travel in Italy. Writing from Naples, he discusses opera, the English community, Vesuvius, archeological excavations at Pompeii, gardens, and a trip to Paestum, Salerno, and Amalfi. He then describes travel to Rome via Mola and Gaeta. Many individuals are mentioned including: Joachim Murat, King of Naples; Sir George Howland Beaumont, 7th Bart.; Richard Hey Sharp; and George Baring. Rogers also mentions the purchase of some paintings and gives directions to Sarah regarding the purchase of a work by Richard Wilson from the collection of Joseph Farington and regarding the care of other paintings in Rogers's own collection.
