Summary
A comprihensive Arabic language lexicon by Muḥammad ibn Yaʻqūb al-Fīrūzābādī (1329-1414 or 1415), born in Kāzarīn (Shīrāz, Iran) and died in Zabīd (Yemen). One of the most famous and prolific Muslim scholars of the 14th/15th century, a lexicographer, linguist, historian, geographer, Qurʼan, Ḥadith and Islamic law scholar who traveled extensively in many regions of the Islamic and Byzantine Empires. His al-Qāmūs al-muḥīṭ which he wrote in Mecca became the basis for most of the Arabic lexicons and dictionaries until today. The manuscript was copied and thoroughly edited from a bad copy at the library of Shah ʻAbbas Ṣafavi (ʻAbbās I, Shah of Iran, 1571-1629). The date of copying is given as "1950?" (probably 1050? H [1640?]). Name of copyist not mentioned.
