The collection consists of Doris I. Farquhar's correspondence, papers, and photographs relating to Edith Sitwell. Correspondence includes autograph and typescript postcards and notes, signed, from friends and family of Edith Sitwell to Doris Farquhar in the years following Sitwell's death in December of 1964. Correspondents include Martin Cyril D'Arcy (1964 December 15); Frank Magro on behalf of Osbert Sitwell (1965 May 26); Penelope Sitwell (1977 May 7); Sacheverell Sitwell (1973-1977, and undated); and Dame Sybil Thorndike (undated). The collection also includes: four blank notecards printed with Edith Sitwell's letterhead; a printed program titled "Dame Edith Sitwell in Celebration of her 75th Birthday, Royal Festival Hall, Tuesday 9th October, 1962"; newpaper clippings about Edith Sitwell and Osbert Sitwell; and the contents of an album presented to Edith Sitwell by Life magazine. The album contains black and white photographic portraits of Edith Sitwell at home and at her birthday celebration at the Royal Festival Hall in London, including 16 by Loomis Dean and one by Cecil Beaton, taken for a feature that appeared in the January 4, 1963 issue of Life; and a copy of the feature itself. The photographs and other album content were removed from the album after acquisition by the library.
The collection also includes a phonograph record with a performance of William Walton's Façade: An Entertainment (London : DECCA, 19--? ; DECCA LXT2977), featuring Edith Sitwell and Peter Pears with the English Opera Group Ensemble, conducted by Anthony Collins.
