At the end of al-Majlis al-thānī wa-al-arbaʻīn "Forty-second session" (folio 208b), the author writes: "Wa-hādhā ākhir al-Majālis al-sanīyah fī al-Arbaʻīn al-Nawawīyah, wa-nakhtumuhā bi-'Majlis al-khitām', fa-naqūlu, bi-faḍl al-Malik al-ʻAllām: Khātimat al-kitāb fī Majlis al-khitām ..."

"al-Majālis al-sanīyah fī al-kalām ʻalá al-Arbaʻīn al-Nawawīyah" (Splendid sessions of discourse on the forty Ḥadīths of al-Nawawī), a treatise on Hadith, by Aḥmad ibn Ḥijāzī al-Fashnī (died after 1570), an Egyptian Shāfiʻī scholar, being an abbreviation of the commentary of ʻAbd Allāh ibn Abī Jamrah (died 1300), Qurʼān and Hadith scholar, on "al-Arbaʻūn al-Nawawīyah", a collection of forty Hadiths, intended to summarize the Islamic doctrines, by al-Nawawī (1233-1277), a well-known and prolific scholar from the village of Nawá in Ḥawrān (Syria), an authority on Hadith and Islamic law, selected mostly from al-Bukhārī's "al-Jāmiʻ al-ṣaḥīh" and Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj al-Qushayrī's "al-Jāmiʻ al-ṣaḥīḥ". al-Fashnī organized his work into forty-two numbered sessions (majālis) and a conclusion session (Majlis al-khitām). The beginning and end of the present manuscript are missing; it starts with part of the first "majlis", ends with the commentary on the forty-second Ḥadith in the forty-second session, and concludes with "Majlis al-khitām" (Conclusion session). Name of copyist and place and date of copying not mentioned, probably from the 18th century.
