Summary
The sketchbook was kept by an unidentified French artist who filled it with humorous cartoon drawings of "modern" French women captured in domestic and public situations, including at the beach, riding a bicycle, walking in a park, with female and male friends, with family and servants, and at home in various types and states of apparel. More than half of the images were captioned in French and carry double entendres or risqué themes. None of the drawings were dated or signed by the artist, but several are attributed as "d'après Grévin" [Alfred Grévin], "d'après Ancourt" [Edward Ancourt], and "d'après Jonchère." The drawings do not include landscapes or buildings.
