William Antes was a soldier in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Regiment, known as the Dragoons.
Summary
Autograph manuscript memoir, signed, of William Antes' service in the United States 1st Cavalry Regiment, known as the 1st Regiment of Dragoons, from 1854 to 1859. Antes describes his travels throughout the American West and California, including his interactions with the Mormon population of Salt Lake City during the winter of 1854-1855 with Colonel Edward Steptoe's military expedition. Antes also describes the regiment's conflicts with Native Americans in California, including the Tule River War.
Box 1 contains the reference surrogate. Box 2 contains the restricted fragile original manuscript.
