Summary
The James Cogswell papers contain five autograph daybooks (1791-1804), two autograph sermons (1784, undated), three autograph letters, signed (1804), to his parish in Windham, Connecticut, and seventy-three autograph letters, signed (1779-1803), to his son Mason Fitch Cogswell. Also present is an autograph letter, signed (1794), to James Cogswell from his stepson John Devotion (1766-1810, Yale 1785) in Boston, and two autograph poems by Devotion titled "Revelation Chap. X. Paraphrased" (undated) and "Spring" (July 26, 1788). A folder of other papers holds the records of an account (1799-1801) James Cogswell had with a local merchant, and three unidentifed manuscript notes related to religion.
