Summary
Manuscript volume, in a cursive script, containing a history of Roman Britain from the first Roman invasion to the Roman withdrawal from the island. The main text concludes with a survey of Roman architectural and engineering accomplishments in Britain, including "Roman ways," "Roman bridges," and "Roman Fords." Ancillary material includes several appendices on individual emperors; a subject index; and two differing lists of "Books Consulted," one at the beginning of the volume and one at the end. The manuscript's format emulates a printed work, including a formal title page and running headers, and is illustrated with five small pen drawings of Roman coins; a tipped-in plan of "Grymn's Dyke" after page 195; a tipped-in pencil drawing of the "ancient Sphinx found at Colchester" at the end of the work; and a tipped-in drawing of an inscribed Roman fragment at the end of the work.
