|a Charlayne Hunter-Gault (born 1942) is an American activist and journalist. In 1961, Hunter-Gault and Hamilton Holmes became the first African American students to enroll at the University of Georgia. Hunter-Gault worked as a journalist for The New York Times and served as a foreign correspondent for CNN, NPR, and PBS NewsHour.
