|a "Evidence-based practice is a paradigm that has become increasingly popular in contemporary health care. It is grounded in the perspective that clinical practice should be informed by scientific evidence. This book describes clinical applications of hypnosis-and emphasizes the theme of evidence-based practice. It strives to integrate the scientific evidence and clinical practice of hypnosis as a treatment or intervention for a range of problems and symptoms. The book takes an evidence-based approach by focusing on applications that possess strong empirical support. These uses include anxiety, depression, acute pain, chronic pain, other behavioral medicine problems, smoking cessation, as well as hypnosis with children and adolescents. Each chapter reviews the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of hypnosis as an intervention for the problem under consideration, offers illustrative case materials, and provides examples of specific hypnotic inductions and suggestions. The uniform format of these chapters is intended to make the book easy to use. The book offers an overview of the definition of hypnosis and describes major theories of hypnotic responding (e.g., neodissociation, sociocognitive, Ericksonian, biological). It provides a brief discussion of individual differences in responding to hypnosis, variously referred to as hypnotic suggestibility, hypnotizability, hypnotic susceptibility, and so forth. Finally, the book provides examples of common hypnotic inductions, deepening techniques, and hypnotic suggestions. The intended audiences of the book are researchers and clinicians, as well as students interested in learning about the use of hypnosis as a treatment or intervention."--(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved).
