Biographical / Historical Note
Tyler was president of the Texas Co-Operative Association, Patrons of Husbandry at Galveston, and Director of the Bell County Co-Operative Manufacturing Association, organized in 1878 in Salado, Bell County, Texas. In 1880, he chaired a building committee of the Co-Operative Manufacturing Association given the task of constructing a factory building and furnishing machinery for a cotton mill in Salado. A. J. Rose was secretary of the Texas Co-Operative Association.
Summary
Letters, documents, bills and receipts, and printed material belonging to O. T. Tyler. The 23 ALS, dated 1879-1881, most addressed to O. T. Tyler, concern his activities as leader of the Texas Co-Operative Association and the Bell County Co-Operative Manufacturing Association, especially his search for machinery as chairman of the building committee. Several letters are addressed to A. J. Rose. There are also receipts for stock belonging to O. T. and Caroline Tyler, statements of account and documents of the building committee and the Texas Co-Operative Association. The printed material consists of advertisements for machinery, two pamphlets concerning the Salado Co-Operative Council dated 1875 and 1876, and an issue of the Montgomery Daily Advertiser dated December 18, 1880.
