Watermark: crest of the city of Amsterdam (Dianova, 1980, #173 (1697); #175 (1698)).
Bound in boards covered with stamped leather, spine restored. Fragments of two clasps.

Summary
Old Believer anthology of readings for the Church holidays, saints' lives, and polemical treatises with emphasis on eschatology and asceticism. Includes vitae of St. Basil the Younger, Euphrosyne of Alexandria, St. Febronia, St. Alexius; eschatological works of Palladius and Cyril of Alexandria; treatises on repentance, drunkenness, meekness, mourning, judgment, bearing pain and suffering, loving God, and abstaining from evil thoughts. Also includes tales on the martyrdom of St. Catherine of Alexandria, the mercy of the Virgin Mary, and short excerpts on shaving.
