In 1787 appeared Dickinson's "History of the antiquities of the town and church of Southwell," written under the name of Wm. Dickinson Rastall (the author's original name) In 1801-03 it was republished in 2 pts., under title "Antiquities historical, architectural, chorographical, and itinerary, in Nottinghamshire ..." To this Dickinson added a supplement in 1819. In 1806 appeared pt. I of his "History and antiquities of the town of Newark" ... intended to form pt. III of the "Antiquities, historical [etc.] in Nottinghamshire," and having a 2d t.-p., "part III, vol. II," dated 1805, corresponding to t.-p. of first vol. In 1819 was published the 2d and last part of the History of Newark, comprising pt. IV of the "Antiquities." cf. Dict. nat. biog.; Gent. mag., v. 92 (pt. 2) p. 376; Lowndes; Upcott; Brit. mus.
