545    David M. Loring (1877-1964) was born in Mason City, Iowa, and raised in Lone Tree, Iowa. He worked as a surveyor for the Northern Pacific Railway Company from 1907 to 1908, graduated from Iowa State College in 1910, and worked as a civil engineer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, circa 1918, and in Lincoln City, Nebraska, circa 1930.  He served in the United States Army during World War I and World War II.
520    Album of photographic prints created by David M. Loring that document surveying and railroad construction for the Northern Pacific Railway Company in Montana and Washington, as well as images of his family and friends in Iowa and at Iowa State College, 1907-1910. Several images depict Native American women with baskets.  Other images include a group portrait of an African American man, white soldiers, and Native American men, women, and an infant, and another of the Ladies Imperial Band of Bozeman, Montana, sitting on a plow pulled by a tractor.
