Gustav Mahler, Austrian composer and conductor. Das klagende Lied, a cantata for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra, was composed in 1880 in three parts: Waldmärchen, Der Spielmann, and Hochzeitsstück. A revised version, without Waldmärchen, was published in 1899.

Holograph text for Das klagende Lied, signed and dated 1879 February 27, Vienna. The manuscript is an early version of the 1880 text in three parts.
