Stephen Dickerman Pardee family papers
Scope and Contents
The Stephen D. Pardee Family Papers include correspondence and an account book of the Pardee family of New Haven, Connecticut. Folder 1 contains Stephen D. Pardee's private account book containing accounts of personal investments and accounts kept as executor of estates and treasurer of civic or religious organizations. Several accounts relate to Trinity Church. The papers also contain letters (folder 3) addressed to Stephen Pardee and his family by his son John S. Pardee, while he served as a commander's clerk on the U.S.S. Albany. The letters, which date from 1852-1853, describe life on board ship and in port at Pensacola, Florida, as well as cruises in the Caribbean and to Cuba. The last letters in folder 3 are from the commander of the Albanyand relay the news of Pardee's death from yellow fever.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Yale Library purchased the Pardee papers from Earle and Whitlock's in 1940 and 1944. They were transferred from the Miscellaneous Manuscripts Collection in 1985.

Stephen Dickerman Pardee was born in New Haven, Connecticut and for twenty-eight years was treasurer of the New Haven Savings Bank.
