Scope and Contents

The Stanley Wilson Papers contain 127 lantern slides (3 1/4" x 4") taken by Wilson during his four years in China. The slides depict the development of the site of Yale-China, 1914-1918, as well as everyday scenes of Chinese life at that time. The slides, all color tinted, are individually identified.

Abstract

The 127 lantern slides were taken by Stanley Wilson during his four years in China when he was supervisory architect for the firm of Murphy and Dana. The slides document the construction of the Yale-China Changsha campus in 1914. In addition to views of the construction site, there are also a number of slides showing scenes of everyday life in China.

Biographical / Historical

Stanley Wilson (1879-1954) was the Supervising Architect for Yale-China, 1914-1918. He supervised the construction of the new campus at Changsha, China, which included educational and medical buildings. From 1919 until his death, he was an architect in the firm Murphy and Dana of New York. Wilson died March 3, 1954.
