Scope and Contents

The Frank Altschul Papers contain three items. The first is a "Memorandum on [French Foreign] Exchange Situation," January 23, 1924, which also contains suggestions for remedying the situation. With this is a letter from Altschul to Bernhard Knollenberg, September 8, 1941, explaining the circumstances under which he made the memorandum and the subsequent action taken by the French government in adopting his suggestions.

The second item is a letter from Altschul to Donald G. Wing, November 14, 1939, inviting him to a dinner in honor of Bernhard Knollenberg.

The third item is a typescript of Altschul's book, Let No Wave Engulf Us, published in 1941, accompanied by a printed make-up dummy of the book.

Abstract

The papers consist of three writings by Frank Altschul: memorandum on the French foreign exchange situation (1924), the typescript of his book Let No Wave Engulf Us (1941), and an invitation to Donald G. Wing to a dinner in honor of Bernhard Knollenberg.

Biographical / Historical

Frank Altschul was born in San Francisco on April 21, 1887. He graduated from Yale in 1908 and served as chairman of the General American Investors Co. Inc. Altschul died on May 29, 1981.
