VRC 0702-1 Chinese Painting Photograph Collection (Research Files): A collection of photographs of Chinese painting from various museum and personal collections including, but not limited to, the National Palace Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Freer Gallery, Princeton University Art Museum, Umezawa Gallery, and the Collection of John M. Crawford, Jr. Arranged alphabetically (Wade-Giles) by artist name, with further information (title, dynasty, medium, repository) in English (Wade-Giles) written or stamped on reverse of the photograph or on separate identification sheets in each folder. Physical Description: 2075 black-and-white, 8x10 inch photographs (unmounted) in 242 labeled folders. Provenance: Gifts and purchases from museums and the Asian Art Photograph Distribution (AAPD), University of Michigan.

VRC 0702-2 Moore Photograph Collection of Oriental Art: Photographs of sculpture, painting, and architecture originally in the Mrs. William H. Moore Collection research files of the Yale University Art Gallery. Some identification information is given in English on the reverse of the photographs. A booklet of eight sample plates for a book of Chinese gardens (signed by Osvald Siren) is included. Physical Description: 35 mounted black-and-white photographs and one 4 page booklet, up to 14x10 inches, in one archival folder. Provenance: Gift, Yale University Art Gallery. Date unknown.

VRC 0702-3 Ellsworth Collection of Chinese Painting: Chinese painting and calligraphy in the Ellsworth Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art. Plates from the book Later Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, 1800-1950 v.2 by Robert Hatfield Ellsworth. Artist name given in English (Wade-Giles) on individual plates, arranged in numerical order. Some plates originally in this collection were mounted for student study and are archived in the Asian Painting Photograph Collection. Physical Description: 369 unmounted printed color plates, up to 14 x 10 inches. Provenance: Gift, Richard Barnhart.

VRC 0702-4 Cahill Photograph Collection: Collection of photographs of Chinese painting (Zhou through to the Ch’ing dynasty), stone engraving, and tomb tiles, taken by the scholar James Cahill as part of the American Archaeological Delegation to the People's Republic of China ca. 1973. Title, dynasty, and repository information is given on most folder labels. Identification lists in English (Wade-Giles) are also included in the front of each box. Physical Description: 506 black-and-white 8x10 inch photographs (unmounted) in legal size file folders. Provenance: Purchase ca. 1974, James Cahill.

VRC 0702-5 National Palace Museum Photographs: Collection of photographs of Chinese painting, calligraphy, ceramics, and bronzes from the National Palace Museum (Taiwan) distributed by the Photographic Archive from the Chinese National Palace and Central Museums (University of Michigan), later known as the Asian Art Photograph Distribution (AAPD). 8 reels of positive microfilm with identification information and identification lists in English (Wade-Giles) are also included. Physical Description: 1010 black-and-white 8x10 inch photographs (unmounted) in file folders and 8 reels of positive microfilm. Provenance: Purchase, ca. 1965.

VRC 0702-6 Chinese Painting Photographs (Barnhart Requests): Collection of photographs of Chinese painting purchased by the request of Richard Barnhart ca. 1985 from the Eisei Bunko Museum, Freer Gallery, Kurokawa Institute, Kyoto National Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, University of Pennsylvania, Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo University, and Yamato Bunkakan. Identification information in English (Wade-Giles) given on reverse of photographs or on lists included in each folder. Organized alphabetically by repository. Physical Description: 116 black-and-white 8x10 inch photographs (unmounted) in file folders. Provenance: Purchase, direct from various museums.

VRC 0702-7 C.C. Wang Family Collection, NY: Collection of photographs of Chinese painting from the collection of C.C. Wang (Wang Jiqian/Wang Chi-ch’ien). Photographs are stamped on the reverse with the name “Bamboo Studio” and an address. Some photographs are identified (title and/or artist) on reverse in Chinese. Physical Description: 34 unmounted black-and-white 8x10 inch photographs in one file folder. Provenance: Unknown. No documentation found.

VRC 0702-8 Hangchow (Hangzhou) Album: Collection of copy photographs of Hangchow (Hangzhou) from an album belonging to King-Lui Wu (1918-2002), professor at the Yale School of Architecture (1945-1988). Photographs are inscribed November 15, 1918. Negatives accompany the photographs. No further identification information is given. Physical Description: 48 unmounted 8x10 inch photographs, and 48 4x5 inch copy negatives, in 3 folders. Provenance: Unknown. No documentation found.

VRC 0702-9 Bones of Jade, Soul of Ice (Yale University Art Gallery, Exhibition): Collection of photographs of paintings and decorative arts in the exhibition “Bones of Jade, Soul of Ice: The Flowering Plum in Chinese Art,” Yale University Art Gallery ca. 1985. Identification information is given in English on the reverse of the photographs. Physical Description: 212 unmounted black-and-white photographs, 8x10 and 10x12 inch, in 5 folders.Provenance: Gift, Yale University Art Gallery.

VRC 0702-10 To See Big Within Small (Yale University Art Gallery, Exhibition): Collection of Chinese fan and album paintings from the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, “To See Big Within Small” exhibition at Yale University Art Gallery (November 1980- January 1981). Arranged alphabetically by artist (Wade-Giles). Identification information given in English on reverse of photographs. Physical Description: 63 unmounted black-and-white photographs, 8x10 inch, in 3 folders. Provenance: Gift, Yale University Art Gallery.

VRC 0702-11 Traces of the Brush (Yale University Art Gallery, Exhibition): Collection of photographs of Chinese calligraphy from the exhibition “Traces of the Brush” held at the Yale University Art Gallery ca. 1977. Arranged alphabetically by artist (Wade-Giles) with identification lists given in English in each folder. Physical Description: 182 unmounted black-and-white photographs, 8x10 inch, in 10 folders.
